TMJ Treatment by Sacramento Dentist Dr. Scott Grivas III

A Permanent Cure for TMJ Disorder

Is your jaw sore when you wake up in the morning? Do you hear clicking or popping noises when you chew or speak? Do you suffer from agonizing migraines that cause severe dysfunction in your normal day?

These are symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), a malalignment of the jaw capable of creating excessive tension in your muscles and adversely affecting your nerves, ligaments, teeth and bone. Our TMD patients visit our office with other telling symptoms, including:

  • Poor sleep
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Severe under- or overbite
  • Chronic sinus problems
  • Nighttime clenching and/or grinding
  • Worn, loose, fractured or broken teeth
  • Tingling in the hands and fingers
  • Unevenly ground or worn teeth
  • Dizziness, nausea and equilibrium issues

Unless it is accompanied by an obvious pain in or around their jaw, most of our patients don’t realize that they may have a TMD problem. Thankfully, by correcting any occlusal disharmonies, Dr. Scott Grivas can help you overcome TMD and get back to living your life to the fullest!

Call our Sacramento dental practice today. We’ll get you out of pain, place your mandible joints back into proper alignment and restore your mouth to ideal health.

One Decision Away from Pain Resolution

The first step in returning your jaw to proper alignment is correct diagnosis. Dr. Grivas is quite familiar with every major and minor TMD symptom. The second step is to design and fabricate a custom removable or fixed orthotic that helps us determine the ideal bite location.

Once that position is discovered, we reach the core of Dr. Grivas’ treatment: permanently shifting your jaw back into a harmonious position. When that occurs, the migraine-causing tension you once experienced is relieved and your symptoms vanish.

To help relieve your symptoms throughout the process, we utilize a TENS unit. A TENS unit uses electrical signals to massage your jaw muscles, loosening them up and freeing them to work better. If your jaw functions better in opening, closing and chewing motions after using the TENS unit, the chances are good that TMD was an issue.

Our patients can’t say enough about the results of their TMD treatment, referring to it as “life-changing”. Why? They stopped taking pain medication and resumed many physical activities and personal hobbies that they had to give up prior to treatment.
